Step Five
Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
In Step Five, we share our inventory with a sponsor or trusted friend. There is a reason the first word in the Steps is "We." By sharing our faults, we release guilt and shame. And, we get out of ourselves, as well as have the opportunity for an outside observer to provide useful feedback. I have always found that energy therapies are more effective with two people, and this would be an ideal place to work with someone who can be a supportive guide through tapping issues. In using the Steps with your clients, this is one of the key points in the process.
Step Six
Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
A tool that can be very helpful in becoming willing to let go of defects is another four-column chart. In the first column, list the most glaring, repetitive defects identified during the Fifth Step. In the second, describe how this defect has affected your life; include the pay-off that makes you afraid or unwilling to let it go. In the third column describe how you think your life might be if you were free of this shortcoming. The fourth column is for short simple affirmations that support your willingness to surrender these defects to the God of your understanding. These affirmations can then be tapped in - particularly with the temporal tap.
Step Seven
Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
This is another prayer Step:
"My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen."
